I've tried attacking two, but that's never worked. I think Neil identifies the reason for the maxim. It usually takes time to complete a prime. Against two checkers one may escape, but that leaves one behind. Or the anchor may be split, which you can counter by priming or by attacking either checker. Against one checker only, its escape immediately foils your priming strategy. Note that a blitzing attack is also an attempt to prime, but more quickly, stealing tempo with every unsuccessful reply. My first thought at seeing ah_clem's comment was: sure, I'll attack -- by slotting the 4 and 3 points!
