It's not just the cool factor, it's return on investment - I remember even before Poker was cool and on tv i met a guy going to a poker tournament in Las Vegas - his entry fee was similar to mine, he could win $50,000 (and had done so once before) while I could win less than $10,000. (if enough people turned up to play)

Then there is the bot factor, even before the bots a lot of people dropped out of clubs because they realized that they were throwing away there $20 every week and the same old guys always seemed to win. Then there were people who didn't realize how much skill was involved, played side games, lost more than they could afford and you never saw them again. Or they turned up a couple of years later after studying some books or whatever figuring they'd give it another chance. In the bot age unless your willing to put an immense amount of time you're at a serious disadvantage, so who wants to shell out $1,000 to fly to another tournament with very little chance of winning? Am I wrong about this guys? Is Norway and Denmark still booming? Why them and not the USA? Geography?

The pre bot days in my opinion were more interesting, people with different styles, now everyone is starting to play like a bot so it's boring. Chess is suffering the same way but not as pronounced
