There are two solutions to what you describe.

1) Pay attention. If you don't, you have no right to complain.

2) Play "touch move" - you touch a checker, you must move it. Figure out what you want to play, move the checkers once, done. Eliminate the back and forth.

I personally favor option 1. Many others favor option 2. The current backgammon rules do not provide for playing "touch move". They also don't provide for playing "legal moves", though many players do. But you can agree to any protocol that doesn't affect the game itself with your opponent. Of course, agree all you want, but don't call the director when they violate the agreement.
