How about simply doubling up the letter if it is ambiguous: 41S-11E; 41S-11ee
I thought the variety of Latin characters (e.g. è, é, ê, ë) might be an elegant solution to the italics, underscores, etc. that are used in nactation. The slant of the accented é is reminiscent of italics, for example, while the horizontally placed dots in ë might connote an underscore. The characters are trivial to enter, and a lot less messy than fingers down the throat.
Just trying to be helpful in answering the query. Use what works for you. Obviously.
