I agree with all the general principles you enunciate here, but what swings it for me is the spare checker on the 2 point. Activating that spare has considerable value; it's not just a matter of getting the blot out of my hair. I wouldn't point on the 1-point with anything but a dilly builder. But it's true that leaving a blot on the bar point is a serious concession, so perhaps that's enough to make 7/1* 2/1 wrong.
