I agree in practice I won't double at the first opportunity and doubt I'd double many players here OtB but we're discussing whether it's a theoretical double. If I'm playing Petko (just as an eg) I know how much he likes this sort of game and he's not passing for a couple turns down the road at least unless something goes severely sour. Most ppl see backgames and don't notice the fine details when it is time to pass so I agree with the theory of wait & let them blunder later.
