In Response To: Rollout (Stick)

This situation comes up quite frequently and i always am unsure wether to step up or bring down.

The problem with stepping up is that 1) it looks unatural with the back checkers on 23 and 20. I guess the problem is that the 23 checker is blocked by the 8 point.

2) It gives white an opportunity to smash you in the head with a 1.

I wonder if it is always correct to step up in these situations in the early game, something to look out for.

Gnu correctly evaluates that 24/20 is correct so we can try a couple of varitations :

It seems to me as if we make white stronger it becomes more important to step up(securing a defensive positions) but if we make blue stronger it becomes more important to bring down (to strengthen the attack.)

As a 41-6x-42 response stepping up is probably always right except agains a 65 incorrectly played 18,8 because it is a factor that stepping up pressures the outfield blot.
