Speeding up GNU Rollouts

Unsurprisingly I never really roll out positions with GNU anymore. Every now and then I'll open it up to look at the staggered MET, that's about it. Today though I went to roll out a position with normal settings for GNU, 2 ply checker/2 ply cube. It took an eternity. I estimate it took between 20-25 minutes. The same rollout with XG took 23 seconds. So what gives?

For reference my CPU speed lists as 3.19 GHz (x32) with an evaluation speed of almost 29 million pos/s per XG.

I have done zero research myself to fix this issue so it's entirely possible there's an easy fix. Still, I thought it would be worth putting it on the forums either way in case someone later wants to look it up.
