In the following position obviously bearing off is a correct backgammon play. With the suggestion about the gammon saving play itself not counting as a decision a clever PR gammon player would make sure it counts as a decision while not making an error with a play like 8/4 and then if opponent does not roll doubles could gain a second decision if a 6 is not rolled by leaving the checker on the 7 point again.
