An Aug. 19, 1977 NYTimes article By Robert Mcg. Thomas Jr. referring to two types of Backgammon players...

Methinks this aspect goes a long way to understanding who and what the USBgF is today - "High Rollers" pulling the ladder up so as to not sit across the board with a peon.

Once upon a time in America, no judgement was made regarding a Backgammon players wealth, personal or professional background, or previous Backgammon experience. All comers was the rule at all open-to-the-public events, large and small. The only segregation was the single and same entry fee paid by all comers. You paid the one fee, you played, no matter who you were, Blueblood or Blue-collar.

I do not advocate the Right of Free Association be denied anyone. I do however advocate the USBgF be honest - remove the facade, the veneer. The USBgF should be what it is - of the elite, by the elite, for the elite. And it should stop meddling outside it's elitist segregationist place. Leave Players playing regularly in local Clubs, local Club Directors and Organizers, and their egalitarian special events alone. Hands off. Stop the fleecing.

Today's con has a pretty face. But it's beauty is only skin deep. Underneath, it's the same ole con, the same ole deception.
