But why again are we trying to assess this? In the rule in question, 4.1.4.1, the word "wall" or any reference to it does not appear. I doubt if it would be too difficult with some slight adjustment of the checker placement to set up a scenario where the die is flat, in that it is parallel to the playing surface, overlapping parts of two checkers, but aided by the wall in remaining flat, so that it would meet the definition of "flat on .. top of one of more checkers" per the rules yet would fail your "move the checkers away from the wall" test.

I'm not trying to split hairs here just for the sake of argument. Just pointing out how the new rule as presently worded leads to an large increase in ambiguity and differences in interpretation among reasonable people as compared to the previous rule.
