Right. -2 pips of timing is a bit shy of a viable backgame.

Seems to me that getting off the deuce point and trying to win going forward is the right idea. After 23/20, stepping up to the 21 is a viable option. So is moving on to the eighteen, or slotting the four.

23/21 asks white to hit loose there, but only 22 and 42 hit and cover so it's not too risky.

Slotting the eighteen doesn't seem to accomplish much. Loose hits cost less, there are more of them and more poh numbers, and we don't really want to make the eighteen.

Slotting the four seems thematic, but there aren't any covers in the area.

I'll go for 23/21 - sixes play awkwardly if I stay on the twenty-two point.

(Making the ace is the obvious alternate play, and maybe it's best, but I don't like burying checkers here.)

23/20 23/21
