Hi - sorry to post in this old post but I guess the thread is continued.

I was browsing around cube topics and found this extremely similar question from Dan Wittkopf asking about, more or less, the same functionality - but interestingly using XG, not GNU. Dan's post was written a couple of years before mine..

Rochelle Hasson (thanks!) seems to give a good explanation to Dan which I finally (think I) can comprehend:

http://usbgf.org/ask-the-pro-qa-7/

These two paragraphs are especially relevant:

"When there are many rolls to go, we know that generally the effective live cube take point is generally about 68 percent of the difference between the live and dead numbers. So in this case, the difference between 19.77 and 28.95 is 9.18. 68% of that is 6.24%. If you subtract 6.24 from 28.95 you get an effective live cube take point of 22.70. So with 21.50 winning chances, this is a drop."

"I have been an advisor to XG since the beginning, and many of my recommendations have been incorporated into the program. I have recommended that the next version of XG will have a third column showing the effective live cube take point, and that column will be in between the live and dead cube columns. That recommendation was accepted a few months ago and you will see this improvement in future versions of XG."

I might be misunderstanding this whole thing, but when Rochelle Hasson described and enumerated "the “effective” live cube take point" something seemed to click with me. I think this 'effective live cube take point' (and doubling point) are the magic numbers that I was hoping could be routinely calculated and displayed somehow (for any given position / score).

I've also got XG now but I don't think this feature Rochelle recommended has been implemented yet - I wonder if it could still be added in the next update of XG?
