Something which some people don't understand

There are at least a small number of people who do not seem to understand that you are required to play a move in backgammon legally. The "legal moves" rule does not in any way address that requirement. It only addresses the consequence of making an illegal move when it occurs. In a generic book on games such as Hoyles, you will see rules such as "legal moves" in a section called "irregularities". No matter what rule you are using for irregularities, you are required to move according to the rules of backgammon. An intentional violation of these rules of movement is cheating whether you are playing legal moves or not.
