"I have collected 5 match files for each cell as independent (approximate) replicates with no control over the player playing against the player for whom I want to collect data. That is the other player has random playing level"

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but it appears that no control over the opponent of the measured player does not establish that the opponent has a random playing level if players have a preference for playing opponents near their own level. Did you establish random selection of opponents by the measured players?
