All this study shows (if anything, as there are some problems pointed out by others) is that normalized luck as measured by XG has higher impact on any given match score than PR. The real question is: Is it possible to quantitatively measure luck?

As a side note, I recently played an online match and was surprised by the luck figures. I don't usually pay much attention to them since I find it useless, but this one is quite unique. I lost 8-11 while playing 6PR and my opponent played 23PR. Switching from normalized equities to cost shows that the luck factor was 116.4%. I didn't realize it could exceed 100% and never saw it exceed 100% before. This is very strange.
