It's not exactly shocking to anyone who has played a game involving chance that luck dominates in the short run while skill dominates in the long run.

Leaving out the 10+ player and comparing only a 3.7 PR player and a 6.3 PR player playing heads up against each other, after 50 11-point matches (a fairly typical year), the 3.7 player rates to be ahead by 8.1 matches, with a 95% confidence interval of [+22.1, -5.9] matches. After 120 matches (a typical year for those who go to many tournaments), the 3.7 player rates to be ahead by 19.5 matches, with a 95% confidence interval of [+41.1, -2.1] matches. How that translates into winning a tournament is another story but it's pretty clear that better players tend to win more matches overall.
