I'd guess the .05 error is in response to White's 53. If White has made the 3 or 4-point and hits loose on the 7-point, Blue has fewer ways to hit back because 5s will be duped to both enter and hit back (11 after either of these vs. 13 after White's 31 roll). Also, the 3-point isn't a strong point for priming purposes but it is about as good as the 4 or 5 in a hitting contest - which is a lot more likely to take place if you split out to the 18.
