Rule changes

In Response To: Rule changes (Steven E. Carey)

I think Phil already said it best (unfortunately, I now have to chew out my own tongue as penance). Any rule change should be an improvement upon the previous rules.

I can see all these being not unreasonable, however, I don't see how it improves the game. They all make considerable changes to play style and technique. Think of "bad roll counting" during backgames for #1. For #2, its possible that this may change a chunk of the opening book, with different MET's in play because the opening roll is not randomized at the beginning of a game. For example, at -2,-4, if its your opponents turn to start the game, then you may have different responses. That may be wrong, but I suspect that there is something in this arena somewhere. For #3, that just complicates how you play doubles in general. It may be OK, but I don't think an additional complication is necessarily a good thing.

I suppose I am falling into the 'old dog' category here, and its not that I am averse to change, I think I prefer positive change rather than sideways change.
