The former Ace Point ABT event in NY did do that at least in 2001. I lost the semi's of the main with prize money, then played in consolation (against the other semi loser, Eric Haber) and then the last chance. I got to the LC final and hedged. I thought it was very strange but that was the way it worked there and I benefited with the hedge.
