Standard Contrast Rules for Tournament Boards

1. there are no "rules" about colors

2. The light background show up better on streamed matches, but they also show dirty more. I believe a darker color for the base color of the board is best in this regard. Then you need two different, contrasting colors for the points so they stand out and you can easily count shots and pips.

3. The checker colors, if exactly the same as the points, can get "lost" in the points and you can miss a checker. For that reason I recommend different color checkers from the points, provided you don't end up with too many clashing colors, as sometimes it can look more like a Christmas Tree lit up. One alternative that I like it to get swirled colors, but with the Erhan board we provide dimpled checkers and that catches the light nicely so that you can see the checkers...flat checkers tend to get lost in the points more.

It really boils down to personal preference...some of my most favorite boards others don't like and visa versa. Some people like the striking, bright colors more, and others like the subdued colors. It's all personal taste.

I think the most attractive (and non-distracting) Erhan (or any) boards I have seen are either the brown and tan quiet, attractive boards, such as the one Larry Morris and others have (I sent you pictures) or the classic pool-table-green boards with either black and white or white and red or black and red points.

Now, here's some other good news about the Erhan boards. Buy a board and let's say after a few months or a year or two you get tired of the colors or see a design you like better. For under $200 delivered we will make you a completely new surface that you can either plop in right on top of the old one or you can rip out the old and put in the new...I have done both successfully. A little gorilla glue holds it in place. You can have a new board as often as you like and keep the old frame.

Now, when you get into leather boards, such as my Geoffrey Parker board, and you have chips outlined in silver, we don't have the issues of showing dirt or checkers blending in with the points, so there I like the much brighter colors, such as my (and Mochy's) Red, White and Blue boards.
