position of cube during Crawford game

In the Simborg-Bower-Horton rules, the cube must not only be removed from the board, it must be removed from the table. What will the next set of rules require? That the cube be removed from the playing room?
From section 5.11 at http://www.bkgm.com/articles/BowerHortonSimborg/RulesAndStandardsGuide/
"During the Crawford game, the cube should be removed from the table, and the next game it should be returned."
And I'd prefer any cube-hiding to occur prior to the game, if at all, rather than during the game, as this might cause the opposing player to interpret this as a capricious cube action and ask for a ruling on that.
