The tournament web page is in German, but you can probably get the message anyway. "Ergebnisse" is "Results" :-)

It occurs to me that one of the differences between backgammon and chess may actually work in backgammon's favor here

I think the big disadvantage for swiss tournaments like mine compared to chess is that winning a certain number of points means not much in backgammon. In chess, when you usually score 2.5 to 3 points in a 7 round tournament, scoring 4 points is a very big deal. Even a strong indication that you got better. But you will never score 2 points in one tournament, and 5 points in the next. That just won't happen.

In backgammon, it is the most usual thing. Thus, while you can go to a chess tournament and beeing very happy scoring 4 points, even though you are still only around the middle of the field, you cannot have the same experience in backgammon. It might be nice that you got to play so many tournament matches, regardless of your results. But the 4 points in itself are not as satisfactory.
