Best BG Tournament in US--My usual diplomatic response

Backgammon already does have its majors but they are by general consensus is not formalized. Until we have an international ruling body and Federation I don't think this will ever be a formal designation.

I believe most will agree that the Nordic open, monte Carlo, and that now, San Antonio have to be considered "majors". Now that Howard has the Las Vegas tournament named as the US open championships, that might have to be considered a major tournament as well depending on the consistency of turnout in the future.

I am going to the tournament in Cyprus in November as I understand that most people rate that as a major and I want to experience it.

I also believe strong arguments to be made for other tournaments that have large draws and international appeal including the Novi and Chicago tournaments, the Japan open, and tournaments in England.
