I've heard people claim that you would be better off if you went for it on every 4th down. I find that hard to swallow. Sure some coaches may be too conservative. But if you go for it on 4th on your side of the field, say around the 35 yard line, even if you convert, you're not guaranteeing that you'll score. But, whenever you fail to convert, you're almost always giving up at least a field goal. I wish there were some way to simulate this.

One of my biggest pet peeves with football coaches is when they make a decision to go for it on 4th down, after failing on 3rd down. You should know whether or not you're going for it on 4th or not on 1st down. That way you can call plays properly. You see way too often a 3rd and long, and they try to get a 1st down with a low percentage pass play...ball is dropped, then they go for it on 4th with another low percentage play. Knowing that you are playing with 4 downs to begin with, you can make a higher percentage play on 3rd, and then have a manageable 4th down. Even your 1st and 2nd down plays may be different.
