Headphones in Backgammon? $.02

To me there is no way an opponent has a right to veto the use of headphones. I would skip a tournament if I knew this was the policy going in.
Our opponent should remain quiet, esp. if we make it a point to ask him, however, as has already been stated, we're normally surrounded by people playing their matches. While I may not want to talk to my opponent maybe Carter is playing Ray next to me and they want to jaw their match. They have the right to do so. It's a social aspect that some people like (and I do too with certain people). Given that though, I should be able to wear headphones to drown out everything going on around me instead of imposing on other matches by asking them to keep it down.
For the most part, consulting match equity tables, take points, and gammon values for those who don't know them going into the match is worthless. If they knew what to do with them they wouldn't have to look them up to begin with.
