Headphones in Backgammon?

Wearing headphones doesn't always mean I'm listening to anything. I assume this is true for others too. By wearing them people assume I can't hear them and thus don't talk to me. That's half the battle if not more. Generally I am listening to music, but not always. Even when I am in between games I always take them off/remove a bud and confirm the score making sure all things are kosher before starting the next game.

I don't make illegal moves and I assume if the place is on fire I'll figure it out when you jump out of your chair and start running from the room. Sound not necessary.
