I suspect that using a polarizing filter would not work. When this came up in 2012, I explained why, and physicist Chuck Bower chimed in to confirm my suspicions. Chuck looked up something called Brewster's angle, and concluded that the light hitting the dice would need to be at a 58 degree angle (from horizontal) for a polarizing filter to work. The bright lights from overhead are probably angled more steeply.

Of course, neither one of us has tried it, so if someone owns the equipment already, it won't hurt to do so. What I do not recommend, however, is for someone to plunk down cash for a polarizing filter until they are sure it will work. An inexpensive web cam may not even have threads for attaching a filter.
