Electronic Boards

Oik! Do you really think a director can draw players other than locals to a weekend tournament venue, when all they are going to do is play on computers--which they could have done from home?
Hopefully what I am suggesting would not turn out like that.
At the risk of further promoting an idea nobody likes, here goes: How bad would it be if one day I roll up to a tournament with a purpose built electronic backgammon board under my arm and say to someone "let's play on this"? Maybe my board even looks and feels like today's bg boards (if it has to), maybe it is just a touch screen that lies flat, the exact details might not matter. Presumably if the technology is not so new that it scares everyone then the concept isn't too horrible, is it?
The main benefit is that it records our games infallibly, has a clock if we need one and can take a seed provided in part by both players or wholly by the tournament director to generate our dice rolls.
All a pipe dream? Maybe. However, assuming my 6 y.o. is ever interested in backgammon it doesn't seem that improbable to me that he and I might be sitting on opposite sides of some bg playing tablet that records all our moves one day. Would such devices not be useful in a tournament?
