Anytime your play involves making a seventh point, it's worth a second look.
Take the dice off the board and look at the position pre-roll. It should be clear that you ought to be reaching for the 20 point spare almost before the dice settle. Almost all your rolls will involve hurling that checker into the outfield and seeing what happens. The problem here is that you've rolled exactly eight pips, and you don't have a good 3 to go with 20/15. Or do you?
White's weak board and, especially, his homeboard blot, are important factors. Magriel's safe vs. bold criteria come through again.
It's interesting that, judging by the rollout breakdown, P may be the best DMP play. Hitting is best here in part because of the extra gammon wins! Semi-blitzing is obviously not the main plan, but White may shortly have five blots in the wind. Things happen sometimes.
