Any tips for playing backgames?

A lot of the "strength" of a backgame is that the anti-backgamer often has more difficult decisions to make

I'm not say you are wrong, but I thought the thinking used to be that playing a backgame was harder than defending against a backgame. Is it generally accepted now that defending against a backgame leads to harder play decisions?
