As Dmitriy says, the doubling window will not tell you when to double unless it is the last roll of the game. The mathematical model used by the doubling window calculation is to assume that you have exactly one chance to double - now or never. And it will tell you this correctly which is why it works on the last roll of the game. It does not tell you whether it is better to double now or wait a turn and revisit the decision.

I find the doubling window close to useless.
