Early 42 to play

White has an advanced anchor and we're still on the 24pt; furthermore, White has more of a priming position than an attacking position. So I believe that splitting is mandatory. The candidates I see are 24/20 6/4, 24/20 13/11, and 24/22 13/9.

In this sort of position I have a tendency to favor building my board with 6/4 over bringing a checker down from the midpoint, but I often get dinged by the bot for that, especially as here where the midpoint has 5 checkers and the 6pt has 4 checkers. So I'm guessing that 6/4 is wrong. It might seem "safer" to slot 6/4, but putting a checker in front of White's anchor is pretty safe too, since White is not eager to break anchor to hit our outfield blot.

Between 24/22 13/9 and 24/20 13/11, I think 13/9 is considerably better than 13/11, whereas the comparison between 24/22 and 24/20 is less clear. 24/20 of course makes a bid for the better anchor, but is more vulnerable to attack. So I would opt for 24/22 13/9.

An interesting variant would be to move a spare from the midpoint to the 6pt. Then I would be tempted to play 24/20 6/4 instead.
