Since my immediate goal is to bring my PR under 5 (by the end of this year), starting to pay attention to such nuances, which also extend to many middle game positions, is a must.

I don't believe that it's a must, but anything that keeps you interested in the game certainly helps.

To drive down your PR, the key is to identify where you're bleeding the most equity and prioritize that. For most people, the kinds of nuances you're referring to here aren't the biggest source of equity loss. After all, Falafel plays about a 3 and seems not to be too concerned about these subtle opening nuances. Based on what I've seen of your posts, you seem to have a pretty strong grasp of the opening already. If you're not yet sub-5, then there are probably some major areas of the game that you don't understand as well as you understand the opening. (Either that, or you're frequently blundering in positions that you "ought" to understand, for psychological reasons.) If you really want to push your PR down in a hurry, working on those areas is probably more urgent than perfecting your knowledge of an area in which you're already strong. I believe that this is basically Dmitriy's advice as well. (Though Dmitriy also emphasized that no two people are alike, and I agree with that too.)

On the other hand, if you're fascinated by the opening and want to study it more deeply, and driving down your PR is a secondary goal, then it makes sense to focus on what interests you.
