Four problems related to Opening 42

1. I neither studied nor played Nackgammon, so I'll approach this position as if it occurred in a regular game. I have a rule of thumb: if at least one player has 3+ checkers back and home boards are relatively weak, then both players should look for pure moves. With that in mind I think 61 gives us a purer move than 42 since it creates a solid three-prime while blocking white's fives and sixes which she no doubt would have liked to use to split to our bar point. I think it is that theme of blocking fives and sixes and makes 61 a better choice. (Thanks to David and Nack I just learned this idea from 62R-11, 63R-11, 64R-11 thread.)
2. I think non-stripping the 8pt makes 42 a stronger move compared to the opening position. On the other hand, 61 also gains in equity relative to 42 since the midpoint is the heaviest point on the board and thus begs to be unstacked first. I'd guess that it's now a tossup between 42 and 61; I'd probably go with 42.
3. Looking for a pure play. I'd guess 24/20 13/11 is best while 8/4 6/4 is second best. We have to get those back checkers moving.
4. I'd take two extra pips in race versus infinitesimally weaker spare placement.
