The BOARD is the mechanical aid

I agree with Bob and Tom to the extent that using one's fingers or brain or toes or other body parts to remember the count does not necessarily violate the rules, unless some non-body part is also used, e.g., turning the dice cup upside down for 50 pips, placing the scoresheet perpendicular to the board for 20 more pips, etc.
My contention is that the BOARD is the non-body part being used as the mechanical aid when fingers are placed on or near the board at, for example, the 8 and 3 points to remember that the count is 83.
Question for Bob and Tom: Does it change your opinion if it's the board, not the fingers, that's viewed as the mechanical aid?
