Remembering 1 Number while calc the 2th

I have two methods. First, if the count is 84, put one finger on the 8 point and one on the 4 point...the finger on the 8 should be a little farther in so you don't think it is 48.
Second, I learned a trick for remembering any number or a string of numbers. Long ago I learned a word that stands for every number, and then I have a visual story to remember a number:
1 is a gun
2 is a shoe
3 is a tree
4 is a door
5 is a hive
6 is sticks
7 is heaven
8 is a gate
9 is twine
0 is a hero.
So if I am trying to remember 56 I picture a bee hive and I throw sticks at it.
387: I see a beautiful tree and behind it is a gate to heaven.
94756: I take some twine to tie up the door because it's heaven to keep out the bees coming from the hive when the door sticks closed.
A visual story is easier for me to remember than numbers. Of course, with the backgammon count it is always much shorter and easier.
