Lance Armstrong? If he's valid for nomination You certainly leave out some strong parameters from my definition of greatness. Same goes with Tiger, different parameter though. They pee'ed in their home pond. They are missing "it"!

Owens and Ali got it. Like Pele for Brazil. What they did had impact all over the world. Nicklaus is certainly eligible but isn't golf a bit too upperclass? Even though Greg Norman would be a strong contender for the Aussies.

Ruth is also out of contetion. He stayed in the US and was more introvert. Rocky Marciano? Both are before my time anyways...
