I don't quite follow your series of steps to get the 38 - 48 race but it seems you are giving us wastage but assuming absolutely none for opponent.

In a likely no miss position that is an important factor. With eight checkers behind the gapped 2 point and also the possibility of not removing a checker to avoid a blot that is not the case here.
