Making the 4pt is a very loose play even though you'll have the stronger board now. You're exchanging the bar point, which is decent enough, for the 4pt and leaving 4 blots strewn around the board. The other play you mentioned only leaves one blot that will be easily covered if miss in a position where you have a decent racing lead. By leaving all those blots around not only do you risk spending some time on the bar but you piss away your racing lead almost certainly.
