Difficult 1-1

I would make the beginner-like play, 3/2*(2), 10/8, hitting and making the 8 point. Besides the nine dancing numbers, putting White on the bar prevents him from making another point (unless he rolls 11, 33 or 44) which will strengthen his blockade against my back checkers. Also, White has several awkward numbers, 15, 35, 36, 45, 32 and 42 which forces him to stack more checkers onto his 3 or 6 point; 36 leaves a blot on the deuce point. I have enough checkers to continue my attack on his back checker and fill in my 3 and 4 points.

The non-hitting, 24/23(2), 10/8, does give White awkward 6's in 63, 64 and 66. However, it also allows him to make his 4 or 5 point with small numbers and to run his back checker with 5's and 62.
