In Response To: 42P-54S-43K-21-32@-51H-62U-54T-31 (Nack Ballard)

Although Nack’s choice of W in this position for 18/15 6/5 conforms perfectly to the definition of Wild in the Nactation Tutorial, I have switched it to the equally acceptable E (Each) in the nacbracs below. That’s because 18/15 6/5 was not wild enough for me! In fact, leaving a blot on the 18pt seems “wilder” than advancing it.

Another reason for my choice is that I generally reserve W for plays that split a rear checker into the same region used by U (i.e., between the 18pt and 24pt). This is not required at all by the Nactation Tutorial, which allows a split to any point on the far side of the board. It only reflects my interpretation which tries to align W with a more traditional “splot” (split-and-slot). When, however, an advanced anchor is broken in order to split a checker out to the outer board against contact (in conjunction with a slot), then I will use W. That certainly fits my definition of wild.

For the bot codes, I have added an apostrophe to indicate version 1.xx of GnuBg. This is important because without it, the nacbracs should be taken to be for GnuBg version 0.xx, which uses much weaker neural nets. I have also been more precise in the trial counts, using 0.360t instead of .3t. Either one is fine. I use the former because it keys me to understand that the trunc is my clone of XGR++. My use of the leading 0. dates back all the way to Niklaus Wirth and Pascal!

Below is a no-Jacoby/no-beavers trunc where it is interesting to note that D = 13/9 slips ahead of E = 18/15 6/5 to claim second place.

Finally, I am including a trunc of the 62 play from this sequence. I found it interesting enough to include in my set of “slot-either-bar-point” positions. In this rollout, slotting the 7pt wins out.

Mike
