I agree that the list is mostly a popularity contest.

Even if we all try to vote as objectively as we can, we are only humans.

If 2 players are perceived to be equally strong and 1 is a nice guy and the other is acting like an idiot, then not many people are going to do the idiot a favor by placing him above the nice guy.

As for whether or not your post about the giants list hurt your chances is pure speculation, unless you know for a fact that someone downgraded you specifically because of that post of yours. I doubt that is the case.
