This is common: You used 8pt spare to build your inner board point. Now you need to drop a builder from overloaded midpoint if you want to make progress in your forward game. Splitting also serves as distructuon--she would love to make inner board points herself next roll, but instead she often has to hit on her bar point. 24/18 13/10 looks very obvuous to me.

It is worth looking for this theme on the forum--there are plenty of examples with good explanations. In one recent post David Rockwell gave another good way ti aproach this problem. If your problem were that other problem, his explanation would likely be as follows:

It is worth knowing second roll responces. In 54D-63 running is best, but splitting is not far behind. In your position he has more incentive to split (see above for the reasons), so split is a "NEXT"
