In Response To: A US Backgammon Tournament rule query from R.G.B. (Michael Nielsen)

From previous discussions it seems that some make a distinction between illegal moves (moves that could in principle be possible with a different dice roll or different positioning of blocking points) and impossible moves (moves that are not possible no matter what). In that view, putting your own checker on the bar is an impossible move and not an illegal move, and cannot be condoned.

Not sure I am agreeing - and impossible moves is not defined in the rules, I assume.
