About a year ago, I tabulated a list of Ideal Racing Positions. For any given pip count and number of checkers, the tables report the arrangement of checkers that gives the lowest effective pip count.

One of the not-so-surprising things that was revealed by the data is how weak it is to have any checkers on the 1pt. For a given number of checkers still remaining, only when the pip count gets below a certain threshold is it desirable to have a checker on the 1pt. Based on that, I’ll guess that 6/2 is correct here. But the difference must be small.

After you post a rollout, I will check my tables, and report just what the threshold is for 9 checkers.
