Stickles:I am also unwilling to accept the public humiliation avoidance. I post these problems because for the most part they came up in my games and I spent some time on them and may or may not have got them right. Other times I have taken difficult decisions from live matches where there was much discussion and many opinions about the plays. So good players have already got the problems wrong, I don't buy that putting it in a post on the internet to live eternally is going to scar anyone for life.
Welllllll...... you may be more tolerant of public humiliation, and I certainly am (as can be strongly evidenced by my willingness to accept a beating on any play posted here). However, newer players or people that are still on the steep curve up towards expert level dont necessarily want to expose their own frailties, nobody does. Who wants to declare "I'm not very good, please mentally note that and kick me around next time we play". Even if good players have already taken a verbal bashing (mostly in fun, I am sure) over a position, they still dont want their reputation beaten up on publicly for it.
There are very very few players that can comfortably survive it - the top 10 in the Giants list, plus some others? But for the rest of us, it can quickly hurt a reputation, and turn a moderately respected player into less than that.
Additionally, if you do any self-googlerizing, then discovering old posts that make you look like an idiot from back in the day isnt cool. Personally, I only extremely occasionally indulge, but am still upset by semi-ridiculous statements that are not a currently true reflection of me. Thats just an opinion though. It wont scar me for life, but it may paint an inaccurate picture of me, which I dont care for.
