In the first position, I think that slotting with 13/4 will win more often but I think it will lose too many gammons. I would try 13/10 8/2.

In the second position, I'd hit. Otherwise we get into nasty corners like your first position. I think it's better to jump the prime when White has no spares to attack than hope to out-time and out-prime White.
