Nack: Randomly place two two-checker anchors in Opp’s inner board, a four-checker point in Opp’s outer board, a three-checker point in one’s own outer board, and four checkers on the 6pt (or lower is possible). Make the opponent’s position symmetrical (which means your own points do not mirror each other). In other words, randomly rearrange the points in Nackgammon without straying from the original quadrants. I call it NGS (NackGammon Shuffle).
I have played this often when regular backgammon is making me yawn. It's a lot more interesting as you always have to be on your toes. Nobody knows how to play the opening rolls by rote, nobody knows the gammon values for multiple reasons, and most people will overlook things like it's their job.
I decide the opening position by using a die and I roll for all the points starting with the inner board points. Here are 5 what would be starting positions I just created using this method.

I realize this will never be adopted probably even as a side event unless I run my own tournament because it's too 'out there'. However, play this at home for a while yourself and then when you return to regular backgammon the game will seem so much easier. It's like growing up playing snooker and then coming to the US and playing bar pool. (or even regular pool to a degree)
I'm sure some configurations may not work as well as others and before implementing this as an event I would work through them all to see if there were some pitfalls and eliminate them as an option.
